Canary Islands Getaway: Lanzarote, A Unique Island

Lanzarote, one of the Canary Islands, is the ideal vacation spot for both the adventure seekers and those just looking for sun and fun. This unique island has everything to make you feel you are experiencing a turning point in your life : astonishing volcanic landscapes, fascinating nature attractions, numerous picturesque sandy beaches and year-round warm weather.

Best Beaches to Explore in Lanzarote

Playa Blanca, on the southern part of the island, was awarded the European Blue Flag for its immaculate, pristine waters and excellent facilities. The third largest tourist area on the island, this peaceful and pleasant spot is the ideal place for the whole family to relax .

Papagayo beaches, also on the south of Lanzarote, are more secluded and surrounded by calm, turquoise waters. The island’s tourism has not ruined the feeling of unspoiled paradise, mainly because of its protection status as a natural park, making them the perfect escape from noisy tourist areas. It will take about 15 minutes to get to the first beach from Playa Blanca but be aware that the road is pretty rough and remote. If you are the adventurous type, you can walk from Playa Blanca, which takes around 40 minutes ,but with the high temperatures and rocky terrain it could become quite treacherous.

Famara beach, located on the north coast of the island, is a remote long stretch of sand and dunes mainly visited by surfers and kite-surfers. It looks absolutely stunning against the cliffs, which seem to amplify the crystal clear waters.

Charming Villages To Visit in Lanzarote

San Bartolome is located in the heart of the island and it stands as a true crossroads since it is a short distance from just about anywhere in Lanzarote. This enchanting little country town shows some beautiful examples of the traditional architecture from the Canary Islands

Teguise is one of the oldest towns in the Canary Islands. A sleepy town with a history as the former capital of Lanzarote in the 15th century, which can be seen in its stately homes and wide, cobbled streets. The town was declared an architecturally historic site in 1980. It is a pleasure to walk around this small and elegant town.

Top Underwater Activities

The Underwater Museum, Europe’s only underwater museum, is a unique dive site in Playa Blanca and a must-see site for all divers. You will dive among the majestic artwork of artist Jason deCaires Taylor consisting of 10 different groups of sculptures. The artist wants to highlight the beauty of the underwater world and emphasize the need to protect it.
