Spain Getaways: Coca Castle In Segovia

Coca Castle is located in the region of Castilla y Leon, home of the famous capital city of Segovia. If you visited Segovia city, you must have been impressed by the incredible architecture of the iconic Aqueduct and the Alcazar Castle, but there is much more to discover in the province of Segovia. Coca Castle, just 45 Km. from the capital, was built on the site of ancient Cauca, the birthplace of the Roman emperor Theodosius. This castle is a magnificent example of a late medieval castle–palace with a mixture of western and Moorish military architecture.

Cauca Castle Visitor Information

You can wander around the exterior and take amazing pictures of the castle, the botanical garden nearby and the oldest towers, or you can also go inside with a guided tour but you have to book in advance. The collection inside is pretty unpretentious but it’s worth visiting it as you can see some arms on display as well as furniture, artifacts and medieval murals.

Admission is only 3 € and guided tours start at 11:00 a.m. and go on until 1:00 p.m. when it is closed for” lunch time or siesta” and continue from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Keep in mind the stairs inside the castle are quite steep and in no great condition.
