Located in the province of Albacete, the source of the Rio Mundo is one of Spain’s most beautiful and surprising areas, according to Conde Nast Traveler. The source of the river is in a large, rocky outcrop with a vertical wall and an astonishing 80 meter high waterfall.

The entrance to the source of Rio Mundo is about 5 km to the south of the town of Riopar by car. There is a parking lot (4 euros) and a nature interpretation centre. You can walk along a pretty easy, signposted trail for about 800 meters to the walkways and viewpoints over the source.

There is also the possibility to take a special route for people with limited mobility or a longer hiking trail, about three hours long. It is advisable to get there early if you want to find a parking spot, and also take your own food and beverages as there are no restaurants nearby.

Depending on the season, rainfall, thawing or changes in temperature, the force of the water changes dramatically, showing a singular and unique beauty that you can’t find anywhere else.
